"The housing theory of everything" posits that numerous contemporary issues are connected to the availability, affordability, and variety of housing in our communities. As the global housing shortage and affordability crisis intensify, and housing options become more limited, crucial innovations in building, zoning, permitting, financing, insuring, and designing housing are increasingly coming to the forefront. From pioneering middle housing policy reforms implemented by the City of Portland, Oregon, to AI startups simplifying the process of permitting new housing, the re:Main re:Think Newsletter will present a selection of these significant innovations every other week, delivered directly to your inbox in an easily digestible format.
No single city, town, state, province, nation, non-profit, or company can address our housing issues independently. It will require a united effort, a "Global Village," to tackle our shared housing challenges. We must learn from and adopt innovations from other places that could assist each of us in addressing our own housing problems. This newsletter aims to introduce you to those on the front lines, bringing needed innovations to bear to rethink how we deliver housing to our evolving communities.
The re:Main re:Think Newsletter is a bi-weekly publication providing the latest updates on;
local zoning and policy reforms,
pioneering developers and local programs,
innovative new housing developments,
startups introducing the newest technological solutions to the housing production initiative,
advocacy successes, guest insights, and so much more.
The re:Main re:Think Newsletter is for:
State & local municipal officials hoping to learn how other states are reforming policy to respond to their housing shortages and unlock housing production in their communities.
Development community looking to better understand the nationwide policy reform landscape and gain exposure to innovative development projects and cutting edge organizations.
Housing advocates interested in keeping up with the rapid pace of policy reforms, in hopes some may inspire reform in their own communities.
Investors and service providers with a keen interest in ensuring they stay on the cutting edge of policy reforms while having an opportunity to present their innovative work to a diverse audience of housing practitioners.
Startups working to take advantage of the latest policy reforms to bring needed new housing to our communities.
In recent years, cities, towns, counties, states, and nations have advanced innovative policy solutions to tackle housing shortages. They have tackled exclusionary zoning by permitting a broader range of housing types on lots traditionally reserved for single-family homes. They have reformed flawed local permitting processes that led to excessive costs and prolonged, uncertain abutter lawsuits. Some areas have adjusted local building codes to enable the production of modest density middle housing in high-demand areas. In response to local policy reforms, forward-thinking developers and local businesses have adjusted to the changing environment to assist in producing the much-needed housing for our communities. We'll highlight many of these efforts with the aim of inspiring change in your community and helping all of us realize a future filled with housing abundance.
